Canaan Baptist Church In Action!

World Wide Missions

Mark 16:15 says, "...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."  According to the Word of God, where there is a creature, there ought to be a preacher!  Currently supporting 148 missions projects around the world through Faith Promise Missions Giving, Canaan Baptist Church believes along with missionary Jim Elliot, "A man is not a fool, that gives away what he cannot keep, in order to gain what he cannot lose."  In the year of 2005, Canaan Baptist Church gave $150,000.00 so that others could hear the gospel.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!  Please help us pray that we can do more to reach the world in the coming year.

We're very excited about our Sunday School ministry here at Canaan.  Every Sunday from 10 AM to 10:45 AM our Sunday School staff does a wonderful job training our membership in the fundamentally sound truths of the Word of God.  Since we have a fully graded Sunday school, you can rest assured that there is a class for each member of your family.  Our Sunday School teachers are encouraged and trained weekly by our pastor and assistant pastor, so that you and your family can be assured of the very best training in the Word of God.  Make Canaan's Sunday school ministry a part of your family's next Sunday morning.  Our Sunday school classes are divided as follows.

Operation Saturation

Canaan Baptist Church is reaching our community for the cause of Christ with Operation Saturation.  We believe in world missions.  However, we also believe that world missions begins in our own Jerusalem, which is right here in Covington, Georgia.  Therefore, with our Operation Saturation ministry and with great turnouts like these, we reached thousands of homes in the year of 2005.  We're just persuaded to believe that even in this modern age in which we're living, nothing will ever take the place of one on one soul winning, door knocking, and personal invites to the House of God.   Our goal is to reach more in 2006.

Youth Ministry

Canaan Baptist Church has an active and rewarding youth ministry. The precious story of Jesus Christ is woven into and through everything the children do. There are classes and activities for every age group from the nursery to the teens. On Sunday we have graded Sunday School classes and Children, Junior, and Youth churches.

Wednesday night is the time for the King's Kids Clubs. These clubs are divided into grade levels starting at the 3 year olds going up through the teens. It is through these clubs that activities are planned-Lock-Ins, skating, rafting, youth group meetings, and day trips, to name just a few.  You can check out King's Kids Clubs on the internet at www.kingskidsclubs.org.

Under the direction of our Teen Youth Leaders Brother Jeremy and Mrs. Faith Tondee, and our Junior Youth Leaders Brother Jeff and Mrs. Gloria Butler, Canaan is continuing to see souls saved and lives changed through our youth ministry.

Nursing Home Ministry

Under the direction of Brother Ken Davis, the preachers of our church do a great job in visiting, preaching and encouraging the residents of Covington Manner, a local nursing home in our area.  Several of our members attend as well to help with the singing, the visiting, and just to offer a friendly smile.  The services begin every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.  Why not join us if you're in the area?

Home School Support Group

Due to an increasing number of Home Educators within our church, we have recently incorporated a support group to minister to the needs of those who educate at home.  We meet regularly for devotions, field trips, and holiday gatherings.  We also use this ministry as a tool to teach the children to reach out to others in our church and community who are in need of friendly visit or a smile.

Bus Ministry

Canaan Baptist Church has a thriving and growing bus ministry. We are currently running bus routes which cover most of the Covington-Conyers area.  These bus routes each have a team of good workers that faithfully goes out to visit and help the bus riders and their families. If you are interested in finding out more about our bus ministry, please feel free to call the the church office. (770) 786-8885.

Drama Ministry

Ezekiel 4:1  "Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and portray upon it the city, even Jerusalem:"   From this command we see that God uses portraying scenes of events as an unique way to touch the heart of man, to inspire, to convict, and to convert.  The drama ministry here at Canaan has had the privilege of presenting the Gospel to many people over the last ten years.  Our purpose is to glorify the Lord, edify the believer, and evangelize the lost.  From our children's Christmas musicals to our adult passion play, our household of faith has the opportunity to work together, building friendships as we build up the kingdom of God on this earth.  Please come and join us!  Our Easter Passion Play will be held this year on Saturday night April 14, as well as Sunday night April 15.  Make sure not to miss it!

Music Ministry

At the very heart of Canaan is our music ministry under the leadership of Bro. Robbie Autry.  The Sanctuary Choir provides special music in every service, and the children's choirs sing on Clubs' Night, which is the first Sunday night in each month.  In addition to the choirs, God has blessed our church with the Canaan Quartet and the Canaan Ensemble, as well as with many soloists, duets, and trios.   Also, we have instrumentalists who play as a mini-orchestra in the worship services.   Canaan does love music!

Sunshine Fellowship Ministry

Where can you find fun, friends, and faith?  Canaan's Sunshine Fellowship, where our Senior Adults meet monthly, offers these--and more.
At the meetings we enjoy sharing a meal, delighting in God's Word presented in the devotional, and laughing together in the humorous programs presented time to time.  We also enjoy just being together and "catchin' up" on each other's news of family, trips, projects--all the areas of our active seniors' lives--and sharing prayer burdens draws us together as nothing else does.  We take the occasional day trip during the year, and every spring and fall we all board our chartered Southeastern Stages coach and take off for a two-night retreat.  We call ourselves Sunshine Fellowship and Company then, since we invite other age groups to come along.  It is a wonderful part of Canaan's family of ministry.
